My name is Tyler Francis and I’m a pursing a degree from the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University. The degree I am going for is Master of Science in Information Security Policy and Management. I am also a recent alumni from Washington and Jefferson College. I majored in Computing and Information Studies (CIS) and minored in German. I was a captain on the Men’s Water Polo Team, a Resident Assistant (RA), and a Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Tutor for the CIS department.
Heinz College
During my first year at the Heinz College I have taken many classes, some of which have allowed me to produce papers and presentations intended for executives. I’ve had the opportunity to research breaches, and the attack paths, responses’, vulnerabilities, and potential controls for organizations that could be implemented to fix those vulnerabilities. I’ve also had the chance to deploy a Windows server running Active Directory (AD), DNS, DHCP, and configure endpoints to connect to the domain. As well as creating users and adding them to groups and enforcing group policy to secure what they are allowed to access. This is done in addition to other labs where I had a chance to configure firewall rules in a safe environment to block malicious or unwanted traffic and secure the network.
